This talk will consider normal brain development, changes during adolescence and how the brain alters as we age. We will begin by looking at how genes make brains and nerve cells and how genes and environment build neural systems. We will address concepts such as neuroplasticity, illustrating how brains change as we learn. In addition to addressing the brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease, we will examine the psychological and behavioural consequences of brain damage and mechanisms of recovery.
