This webinar will focus on the topic of relationships. Specifically: –

  1. Evolutionary explanations for partner preferences: sexual selection and human reproductive behaviour
  1. Attraction: self-disclosure, physical attractiveness (matching hypothesis), filter theory, social demography, similarities in attitude and complementarity
  1. Theories of romantic relationships: Social exchange theory, equity theory, Rusbult’s investment model of commitment, satisfaction, comparison with alternatives and investment. Duck’s phase model of relationship breakdown: intra-psychic, dyadic, social and grave dressing.
  1. Virtual relationships in social media; self-disclosure and absence of gating
  1. Parasocial relationships: levels of parasocial relationships, absorption addiction model and attachment theory

The focus will be on teaching. You will be given innovative and active ideas for delivering this topic to students effectively. We will discuss how to make the learning ‘stick’ and strategies for making the content accessible to lower ability students and stretch and challenge for the more able will also be discussed.
